Between 1997 and 1998, Bright Purple Metallic was available as a factory color choice for the Camaro. In total, 1,364 were built; 883 in 1997, and 481 in 1998. It is considered one of the rarest 4th generation Camaro colors.

The color you are thinking of is Sport Gold Metallic. There were 1,547 built in total; 1,542 in 1998, and 5 in 1999 for a Days Inn promotional giveaway.
